Amy Mowafi – a not-so-good Egyptian girl who was born and bred in England – is Managing Editor at Enigma magazine, the Arab world's leading English lifestyle publication. Various magazines (in England and Egypt) have been publishing her self-indulgent writing since 1998.

Currently based in Cairo she moved to Egypt (the Motherland) after graduating from The University of Bath with an entirely pointless B.Sc. (Hons.) in Business Administration. There was a brief stint at the University of Texas at Austin, but it’s probably best not to talk about that.  She also has an MA in Journalism from the American University in Cairo...well, sort of, because she never quite got round to finishing her thesis.

Her hugely popular monthly opinion column on the back page of Enigma (Fe-mail) tracks her ridiculous adventures as a single girl living in the Land of the Pyramids. In this column she shares her disastrous dating stories, pokes fun at high society and mentions the word 'sex' more often than strictly necessary. Which is why, according to her mother, she will never find 'a Nice Egyptian Boy' who is willing to marry her.

In March 2008, Enigma Books (A Division of Supreme Publications) published Amy’s debut book - a compilation of her famed ‘Fe-mail’ articles. ‘Fe-mail: the trials and tribulations of being a Good Egyptian Girl’ immediately became a local English-language best-seller, beating out the likes of Paulo Coelho and The Yacoubain Building’s Alaa Al Aswany.

During her six years (and counting) at Enigma magazine, Amy has also interviewed many of the region’s top entertainment, business and political personalities, with her in-depth, candid and sharply written profiles proving nearly (but not quite)  as popular as her column.

Following the success of the book, Amy landed her own segment on the top-rated Egyptian TV station OTV. Starring alongside Egyptian actress Mimi Gamal, each week Amy debates the tantalising topics raised in the book. She is forced to do this in Arabic. Which is a bad idea, but as with most things in life, she does it anyway.

At present, Amy is in the process of writing a ‘proper book’, a novel with a plot line and everything. i.e. not just a compliation of articles, which Amy is the first to admit, was a bit of a cop out.
